Rehoboth Lodge 279 is Host District Meeting at Wallace Craig Lewis Top Officer North Carolina Demolay New Bern—The 51st Annual Conclave of North Carolina DeMolay met here July 25- 28 to transact the necessary business of the Order, elect new state officers, welcome the Grand Master of North Carolina Masons, en gage in various competitions, and play a little. Registration began at Sudan Shrine Temple Friday morning and the Temple was in use throughout the Conclave as a place for meet ings, meals, and dancing. Use was also made of the Scottish Rite and the York Rite Tem ples. Athletic competition involved ping pong- tennis, golf, basketball, riflery, bowling, soft- ball and volleyball. New Bern’s host chapter had also arranged a program of entertainment for the visiting chapter sweethearts, including: a beach party, a pizza party, a Trent River outing and a tour of Tryon Palace. Parham Honored Oxford— The Oxford Orphanage Alumni Association hosted a reception here July 7 hon oring Maurice E. Parham who was retiring after handling the Orphanage’s business af fairs for more than 44 years. Parham, a mem ber of Oxford Lodge No. 122, will serve the Orphanage on a consulting basis for several more weeks and will begin to give his golf game increasing attention. The golfing ac tivity will be helped along by the gift of a bag, a cart, and other golfing equipment presented by the office and administrative staff. The Alumni Association gave the Parhams a silver chest and the T. B. Currins presented a desk set. Parham came to the Orphanage during the depression years and has been witness to vast changes on the campus. He has seen the ad dition of a new administration building, din ing room and kitchen, recreation center, chapel, vocational building, and eight new cottages. Most of the new buildings were erected during the administration of Superintendent (now retired) A. D. Leon Gray and they were evidence, Parham noted, of the generosity of (Continued on Page Two) Wallace—Rehoboth Lodge 279 was the des ignated host for the 1974 meeting of the 12th District but fire had damaged its building, at Rose Hill, and Wallace Lodge 595 made its facilities available for the meeting here on July 24. Grand Master William L. Mills, Jr. was only a quarter of the way into his schedule of district meetings when he completed this one and already he has crisscrossed North Carolina, visiting virtually every point of the compass. His remaining schedule will take him over a lot of the same roads and into a lot of the same areas, as he visits other lodges and other districts. For the Mason who was un able to attend the meeting in. his own dis trict there is still opportunity to attend a district meeting somewhere within easy driv ing distance (see schedule following this ar ticle). This meeting followed the announced for mat, dinner was served at 6:30 and the lodge opened at 7:30. The Master presided as the District Deputy Grand Master was offic ially received, then the District Deputy pre sided for the reception of the Grand Master. Each Master reported upon general conditions in his lodge and answered specific questions (Continued on Page Six)
